Winds wreak havoc at Santa Anita

Slide show of wind damage at Santa Anita, 12/1/2011

These photos were taken early Thursday morning, Dec. 1, following the horrific windstorm that ravaged the area the previous night.

Power was restored to Santa Anita’s barn area about 2:00 p.m. Friday. Cleanup and assessment of the damage continues, while training and simulcasting have resumed at the Arcadia track.

Although widespread damage was reported in the barn area, there were no human or equine injuries reported.

So sorry to see this. I remember the stable area from when I used to visit my uncle's barn as a kid.

This is so sad, Mary. That was my favorite sitting spot where the trees in the paddock fell. :(

Mr. Stronach: If ever there was a golden opportunity for you to repair your ramshackle barns....

How are the repairs coming along? does your insurance cover the 'hand of god' natural disaster situations? some insurance policies can be really difficult about these situations. I hope everything goes smoothly for you.

OMG...can't "The Great Race Place" afford safer barns than those garbage pails? Disgusting...an open invitation to disaster. I can remember when saying your horse was stabled at Santa Anita was prestigious. No wonder horse racing is a dying sport. I wouldn't stable a rental string in such flimsy barns.
