Shoeing a Horse for Santa Anita's Synthetic Track

Farrier Mike Lynn at work, Santa Anita Racetrack.

The Queen's Plate XT is one of the most commonly used horseshoes these days at Santa Anita, where horses train and race on the Pro-Ride synthetic track.

Watch farrier Mike Lynn as he shoes a horse in the shedrow at Santa Anita. As Lynn explains, this particular shoe has a very low profile and offers less resistance. This type of shoe, in contrast to one with obvious toe grabs, allows the horse's foot to slide rather than stick on the synthetic surface. Enjoy the video!
