Well-known California trainer Henry Moreno was recently feted on his 80th birthday at a surprise party given by his family. I was honored to be among the 80 or so guests celebrating with Henry at the Pasadena home of his daughter Elizabeth. I couldn't resist snapping a photo of the fabulous cake that was decorated with a depiction of the Henry Moreno silks.
Among the party guests were Henry's son, two daughters, and several grandchildren, as well as friends from far and wide... most notably, Jay Pletcher (Todd's father) and his wife, Joan, who came all the way from Kentucky; C.R. Jones, the famous rodeo bull-dogger and movie and television star best recognized as the "Marlboro Man;" longtime friend and fellow trainer Mel Stute and his lovely wife Annabelle; and retired jockey Ray York -- to name just a few.
It was a celebration worthy of Henry Moreno -- one of the all-time greats. Happy Birthday, Henry, and many more!
Watch for an upcoming "Trainer Snapshot" featuring Henry Moreno.
